Kress and Tammy SimpsonFor the last 34 years, Kress and Tammy Simpson have run KTS Farm, a small 180-acre seasonal grass-based dairy in the Elk Run Watershed of Rutland Township in Tioga County, Pennsylvania.

Through the vagaries of weather and markets, they have built a successful business that they are now ready to transition.

While their son and daughter have helped with milking chores growing up, they are now exploring other learning opportunities, so Kress took steps to transition the farm business to a younger farmer that has been involved in the business.

My day starts as it usually does three days a week, with a 6 a.m. Spanish class over Skype with my teacher, who is at an immersion school in Puebla, Mexico.

Our lessons normally consist of listening and grammatical exercises, followed by reading and comprehension of an article from El Lechero selected by my teacher.

They may not even know that is what they are doing when they stand and talk with each other at the feed store or hang around after the pesticide re-certification meeting to chat amongst themselves. They have that support without even really knowing they have it.
