For the last 34 years, Kress and Tammy Simpson have run KTS Farm, a small 180-acre seasonal grass-based dairy in the Elk Run Watershed of Rutland Township in Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
Through the vagaries of weather and markets, they have built a successful business that they are now ready to transition.
While their son and daughter have helped with milking chores growing up, they are now exploring other learning opportunities, so Kress took steps to transition the farm business to a younger farmer that has been involved in the business.

Never in his wildest dreams did Jake Peissig think he’d see a 30-pound-per-cow increase when he and his father built a new robotic milking facility.
Now, according to a DeLaval press release, JTP Farms in Dorchester, Wisconsin, achieved the highest production for any VMS (voluntary milking system) customer in the world – and possibly any producer milking robotically.

“My goal is that my grandchildren will never know cows had horns.”
It’s a bold statement, but one that Wes Kerr believes in wholeheartedly.
Kerr, a young dairyman in Buckeye, Arizona, views polled genetics the way of the future for dairy breeding.
“Even if it doesn’t happen in the industry, it’s going to happen here on this farm,” he says.

My day starts as it usually does three days a week, with a 6 a.m. Spanish class over Skype with my teacher, who is at an immersion school in Puebla, Mexico.
Our lessons normally consist of listening and grammatical exercises, followed by reading and comprehension of an article from El Lechero selected by my teacher.

C.J. Middleton, originally of Hannibal, Missouri, was born a dairy farm kid.
His grandfather and uncle were heavily involved in managing cows and compost at Heartland Dairy, owned by Charlie Sharpe, in La Belle, Missouri.

Men who are dairy farmers have it pretty easy when it comes to networking.
They may not even know that is what they are doing when they stand and talk with each other at the feed store or hang around after the pesticide re-certification meeting to chat amongst themselves. They have that support without even really knowing they have it.
